Within the Northern Nations, and especially the US, revolution is necessary, but traditional armed revolution is impossible. What is possible is a revolution in consciousness, both political and cultural. Such a revolution would begin along two dynamics: media and memes, for it is these two that shape both politics and culture within developed nations.

In terms of media we have the precedent of samizdat and the emerging models of internet media as well as the possibilities of adapting pre-existent models such as DVD's and their distribution, public access, and independent films.

The crafting and viral propagation of memes is the subject of much theoretical discussion and example analysis, but needs practical work and experimentation. Candidate memes for social change such as "Another world is possible" or "No blood for oil" have been less than pervasive, while banal examples from advertising such as "Where's the beef?" from a decade or so ago or Nike's "Just do it" more recently, have been phenomenally successful.

The Revolutionary Media Army is a San Francisco Bay Area local media collective intended to focus on these areas and additionally to explore possibilities for self-sufficiency through media and PR work for selected clients. Because we believe strongly in the power of locale-based organizing and face to face meeting, we have chosen the local model rather than a global, virtual one. Media makers in other locales are encouraged to form their own collectives under this name or any other and to join this group, however. There are also significant possibilities for joint projects with other individuals and groups anywhere in the world.
